I want to dedicate my first post to my friend Marie who has shown me that women can have it all. She is a true inspiration for modern women - a successful tech executive leader, a dedicated mother, and an example of balancing career and family.
If you are juggling an executive role and motherhood, life can feel very overwhelming at times. From finding childcare to managing your busy schedule and finding time for yourself, there are many obstacles that you have to face on a daily basis. It's a constant struggle to ensure that your job doesn't take away from your family time, but at the same time, that you don't fall behind in your career. Here are 5 tips to help you manage your dual roles and make the most of both worlds!
1. Don’t get caught up in the pursuit of perfection
You may want to be a supermom and do it all, but reality often sets in when trying to balance between homecooked meals, cleaning, spending quality time with the kids, and keeping up with work commitments and deadlines. When we strive to be the best at everything, we can quickly become overwhelmed with all of the tasks and expectations that come with it. This can lead to an unhealthy cycle of stress, anxiety, and exhaustion. You may feel like you have to do it all, but this is not sustainable in the long run. You need to give yourself grace and let go of the guilt. We, women, can be our harshest critics, but if we don't take a break to chill out, treat ourselves right, and get perspective, there's no way we'll be able to work our best. So go ahead and embrace your perfect imperfect life!
2. Prioritize Self-Care
Taking care of yourself is essential for a healthy and happy life - it becomes even more vital if you are wearing two busy hats simultaneously. Self-care isn't just about pampering yourself, going to the spa, or taking time off from work - it's about making sure that you are taking care of your mental and physical health so that you can stay productive and successful in both roles. Whether taking a few minutes each day for meditation, walking, or scheduling regular check-ins with friends and family - these small acts can make a big difference in our overall well-being.
3. Outsource household tasks
Being an executive mom is like juggling a million things at once and keeping a smile on your face through it all. But with the help of outsourcing, you can take some of the stress off your plate! Life could be so much easier if only we had a clone of ourselves to do all the tedious work. That’s why outsourcing some of your tasks at home can be a great way to free up time and energy for other things. From having a nanny to help with childcare, getting meals delivered or hiring someone to do your housecleaning and grocery shopping, there are plenty of ways you can outsource things around the house. You can also seek a lending hand from family and friends. It is important to remember that asking for help is not a sign of weakness but rather an indication of strength. By allowing yourself to receive help from others, you are demonstrating that you are competent at juggling both your personal and professional responsibilities.
4. Spend quality time with your kids
It’s all about making every moment count. With your busy schedule, it can be hard to find quality time to spend with your kids. It doesn't matter if you have just a few minutes or an entire day - there are plenty of ways to make the most of your time together. From simple activities like reading stories and playing games, to taking the time to have meaningful conversations, listen and show empathy when your child needs it — these small moments can add up over time and help create strong bonds between you and your kids. Why not schedule it in your agenda since it is one of the most important meeting in your day :).
5. Balance your life with coaching
Executive mamas face many challenges when it comes to balancing their career and family life. Coaching can be a great way for them to gain clarity on what they want, what they need and how to successfully manage both of these aspects of their lives. From developing strategies for managing their time, setting goals, and finding ways to better balance work and family commitments, they can gain the confidence they need to take control of their lives and achieve success both at home with their family and in their career.
Motherhood and career success are no longer mutually exclusive. Women can now strive for both and achieve tremendous success without compromising on either facet of their lives. Though it can be challenging, with the right strategies, you can make it happen. So go on mamas, conquer the corporate climb!
